Sonia calls for aggressive response to opposition's false propaganda


New Delhi:(Page3 News Network/Newsonair)-Congress President Sonia Gandhi today called for an aggressive response to opposition's false propaganda accusing them of attempting to grab power at any cost. Addressing the Samvaad Baithak at Suraj Kund near Delhi, she said the opposition is bent upon spreading disinformation on political, moral and policy issues.
Mrs Gandhi said that the Congress -led government has changed the face of India through unparalleled programmes and laws. Referring to excellent record of the government's achievements she reiterated party's commitment to the interest of the common man. She said the party is facing very difficult challenges and Opposition's greed for power could weaken democracy, equality, sovereignty and secular values as they intend to grab it at any cost.
Hailing the able leadership of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh to the government which, she said, has helped the country
stave off to a large extent the effects of the global economic slowdown for the past few years when countries much more developed than India are in crisis. She emphasized the need to tell people that India cannot be fully insulated from the global economic crisis. 
The government had to take certain decisions due to the global economic crisis because of which the common man faced difficulties.
At the outset, she said the forum of the dialogue meeting is for strengthening the interaction between the government and the party at a time when those who are sent to the government have to fulfil their responsibilities, while those in the party feel that it should run as per the ideology of the organisation.
Asking the party workers to put forth their views on empowering weaker sections of the society, Mrs. Gandhi said that the party has to be ready as only 18 months have been left for Lok Sabha elections.
AIR Correspondent reprots, Union ministers and top Congress leaders are attending the session to discuss the present political and economic situation in the country. The day-long meeting will also discuss the status of implementation of the 2009 party manifesto.
